At the point we decided to alter our priorities and exit the hectic city life we started looking for our paradise. Residing on the California coast was great, but packed no matter what entertainment we decided to do. We had talked about Colorado and the wide open spaces, especially on the Western Slope with villages like Aspen and Vail that are smaller communities, but also popular cultural centers.
Landing the plane in into Grand Junction we started east on Interstate 70 to check out Western Colorado. It was late in the day when we drove into Glenwood Springs and felt this would be a nice place to stay the weekend and then decide on Aspen or Vail the next day. We choose to rest at the old and quaint Hotel Colorado and after settling into our room we wanted to discover what Glenwood Springs had to offer. The receptionist suggested some small shops to visit, but when we inquired about places to eat he said it depends on the food you want to enjoy. Being in Colorado I wanted a nice steak, but my sweetie insisted on seafood like in California. I reminded her the nearest ocean was several miles away, so the seafood should never be asflavorful as we could get back home, but she insisted. So his recommendation was a small dining establishment right across the foot bridge called Juicy Lucy’s steak house where we could have the greatest variety of both.
After visiting several unique shops we found Juicy Lucy’s Steakhouse and after a brief duration at the historic bar we were seated. As I skimmed the menu I noticed the best meal for me, Colorado Elk Sirloin. Organically grilled elk sirloin shaved and presented on sautéed portabella mushrooms, but I wasintrigued by the {fish|seafood|fresh catch| selections on the choices. I was even more impressed by their daily offerings like; beef Tenderloin in Tuscany Wine Sauce or Fresh fish Mequite Grilled over the BBQ. I had to ask about the flavor and quality since it was certain the closest real water was a long distance away. He explained they only deliver the freshest ingredients and the fish is flown in fresh six days a week. My wife ordered the Sea Scallops and I will tell you this if you had no idea you were in {the rocky mountains|Colorado|dry regions of the country| you would insist you just had dinner in a seafood restaurant near the cost.
The next day we decided on Basalt, and fell in love with the small towns from Glenwood Springs to Aspen. Here we could sled in the winter, fly fish in the summer, hike, bike and be by ourselves, or go to a fun event or concert almost any night. We found our wonderful retirement place and knowing that regardless where we end up in the valley we were only a short trip away from the freshest seafood in the middle of the Rocky Mountains. Who would have thought that a fine dining establishment named Juicy Lucy’s Steakhouse would help us make one of the greatest decisions of our life.
